About

Headshot of a woman with short dark hair, gently smiling at the camera

My name is Laura Portalupi. I’m a professional proofreader and copy editor with more than 15 years of experience. I provide editorial services for academic journals and publishers of scholarly content, doctoral students completing dissertations, and researchers preparing manuscripts for journal submission.

I started my career in educational publishing, and over the past two decades I’ve honed my editorial skill set alongside other interesting work in nonprofits, edtech, and health services research. This combination of interdisciplinary knowledge and technical expertise has been vital to my success as both a proofreader and a copy editor.

I have a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Denver, where I studied and wrote about intersections of human and animal welfare. Later, I contributed to social-behavioral research on communication of prognosis and shared decision making at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. I have experience writing manuscripts for publication and have served as a journal peer reviewer.

Currently based outside of Boston, I value providing services for global audiences. I’m a Third Culture Kid, having lived in Europe as a child. This aspect of my identity, along with my core values of integrity, authenticity, and curiosity, has led me to live and work in France, South Africa, and Thailand.
